I exist in a reality that does not allow me to be creative with what I wear every single day of every single week; it just never happens. I would kill to wear challenging, daring, and out of the norm outfits on a daily basis while hustling from meeting to meeting and airport to airport, but that’s just not my life…yet. Ya girl is studying hard at university, payin’ those bills, and working the extra hours outside of everything else to climb the ladder; so the ever so tempting outfit creations just begging to be paired will have to wait (at least most days). That is why I have found myself gravitating toward great basics.
It’s almost contradicting in my opinion. I am the girl to shy away from the plain ol’ stuff and pick up any and every piece that screams not so typical. Everything has trade offs though. These days I barely even have time for the basics. That is not to say basics are and forever will be boring. This is where our mindset must change. Basics can be basic all day long, but adding an adjustment here or there can and will make all of the difference.
Here are a few of my go-to’s when styling basics:
Loose a few buttons
Cuff sleeves in an abnormal way
Half untucked shirt
Sheer underlays
Detailed bralettes
Raw pant hems
Creative distressed denim (aka take scissors to those bad boys)
Unevenly rolled pant legs
Simple jewelry
Killer bag
BTW, this Coach bag has been my go-to the past couple of months because it is so easy to throw on and adds a little color to any outfit…accessorizing on the go without even thinking, exactly what I need! Find my bag here!

Thank you Coach for sponsoring this post. All words and creative direction are my own as always.
Love this! I’m a teacher so… yeah. Creative outfits aren’t always practical or an option. Thanks for the tips!
Thank you! Yes, sometimes practical is just the way you have to go, but that doesn’t mean boring 😉 xx
I totally understand where you are coming from! I definitely live a pretty normal life and wear relatively basic things 🙂

Glad we can relate 😉 Basics are such a large majority of my closet! xx
