Why I Chose To Start Preventative Botox

Alright, I know what most of you are thinking, “you don’t need botox, you are only in your early twenties!” Well, yes this is true but what I have recently learned is that you can take steps to eliminate wrinkles before you even get them. To be honest though, I thought the same thing only until about a month ago. I had this idea of botox only being for those middle aged people that want to look like they are in their glory days again resulting to thousands of dollars spent only to look like a plastic freak. Ya, I actually thought that. My head was full of images of those Beverly Hills women who are famous for the overuse of not just botox but tanning, makeup, and tight clothing too. You get the picture I’m describing? Well, turns out that is not the case. I have learned so much about preventative botox and taking care of your skin from MD Cote while you are young and I really hope we can break this stigma botox comes with, whether you want to get it or not.

The first thing to understand is that everyone’s face and skin are different. People start showing signs of aging at a very wide rage of ages, that is why it is important to know your own face; nothing is black and white. Preventative botox is meant to slow down the process of aging and prevent lines that would appear with age. Botox injections are also not just for preventative reasons, but it can also be used to fill in acne scars-something that I will be doing as well. You can follow this link to get more information!!

I did not do the full amount of botox as someone who is older with some aging would do. I did 10 units between my eyebrows. I have these two prominent lines there from squinting my whole life and while they don’t show when my face is relaxed, I know that one day they will begin to be prevalent. The units were injected right below the wrinkle lines and it was so quick, easy, and painless. The part that put me at ease the most was that Dr. Cote is in the top 5% of doctors in the nation for injections. I asked Dr. Cote to weigh in with a few points that are worth mentioning. Here is what she said:

1. The earlier you start, the more preventative it will be

2. The youngest you can start is 18

3. The more interruption the muscle has, the more effective it will be at preventing deep creases from occurring, and deep lines will form less and less

4. A botox treatment can be used for the forehead, nose, lips, crows feet, corners of the mouth, brow lift, worry lines, lipstick lines, frown lines, bunny lines, vertical neck wrinkles, and horizontal neck bands. It also can be used for hyperhidrosis, aka excessive sweating, and acne scars like I mentioned before.

So, I’ve been ranting about how much I believe in it and love it but where is the proof that it works?? Take a look and these before and afters and you’ll see, visit the site of the place where I did it.

*Note: I am making the exact same frowning face in each photo

Ultimately, it is up to personal preference, but I have to say, I will no longer look down on botox. I think it is a great preventative step to younger looking skin for much much longer time. So glad I found this post! Preventative botox is something I’ve been thinking about too, but I feel like there’s such a stigma around it, especially for younger women. Hoping this will change soon, and it was nice reading about your experience!

There is SUCH a stigma about it-I even fell into that thought process too before I actually learned about it. I love the botox I got, granted it was not a lot at all because, I mean, I am 20 years old, but prevention is truly key!
